With Nebraska's low unemployment rate, communities throughout the state are teaming up with the AIM Institute's Careerlink.com to help jobseekers more easily find Nebraska's employment opportunities, with the city of Sidney becoming the latest to sign on.
Western Nebraska is aggressively moving to draw attention to jobs, business opportunities and the quality of life in the High Plains region, says Rod Armstrong, vice president of strategic partnerships at AIM.
Through the High Plains initiative, AIM is providing the support of its Internet job-posting service, Careerlink.com, to assist the region in building a 21st-century workforce. While the long-term goal of the initiative is to attract people to the numerous opportunities in western Nebraska, the first stage is already showing promising results.
Rawnda Pierce, executive director of Twin Cities Development Association in Scottsbluff/Gering, says the partnership between Twin Cities and Careerlink.com has significantly increased the visibility of the area's job opportunities.
"Coupled with our community promotion efforts, we are seeing results in terms of new families moving into the area," Pierce says.
Building on the foundation of AIM's partnership with Twin Cities
and the support of Cabela's, Sidney has now become the most recent
addition to this growing initiative.
Similar to the Twin Cities partnership, Sidney has signed an agreement to help provide and subsidize AIM's Careerlink.com services for its small- and medium-sized businesses. This opens up a new employee recruiting avenue for businesses that normally would not post on the Internet, Armstrong says.
Western Nebraska is not the only region revving up its employee recruitment efforts. AIM and Careerlink.com are also assisting three other Nebraska communities North Platte, Seward and Auburn in similar initiatives that are supported by a Building Entrepreneurial Communities Act (BECA) grant from the State of Nebraska. Discussions are also under way in several other communities and regions across the state, Armstrong says.
