It's almost been a year since Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh sat down to write his first book Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose, a bestseller on many lists including the New York Times.
Anyone who has read Delivering Happiness knows Hsieh likes to do things a little differently and naturally, that carries over to launching a book. So starting in August, Hsieh and his “Delivering Happiness Team” set out on an over 20-city bus tour with one mission in mind: to Inspire and Be Inspired.
Where in Omaha did the “Happy Bus,” a 47-foot-long baby blue vehicle, seek inspiration? One of the stops was at the AIM Institute’s headquarters. It was AIM’s enthusiastic and passionate employees who caught the attention of the “Happiness Team,” according to Jeff Slobotski, AIM’s director of innovation and entrepreneurship.
“I shared a bit about AIM with the team, touching on things like our Unity Council, which works on employee and community engagement projects, and the culture and mission here that everyone is so very passionate about,” Slobotski said.
While at the AIM Exchange Building, seven of Hsieh’s employees filmed interviews with a variety of AIM staff members, attempting to learn why we are successful. Along with similar interviews filmed at Omaha Children’s Hospital and Omaha Steaks, these videos will be posted at www.deliveringhappinessbus.com as part of a collection of stories from around the nation that are intended to serve as motivation and inspiration for others.
“It’s exciting AIM was able to highlight and share what we do to key members of a very successful organization,” Slobotski said, pictured at left with Holly McNamara, the bus tour director. “Exposing AIM’s work to a national audience is something we are excited about.”
AIM staff members greeted the bus with a choreographed welcome as it arrived at the AIM Exchange Building and presented the "Happiness Team" with a gift basket. Here’s a fun video about the “Happy Bus” stop at AIM. For more on Hsieh's book, visit this site.
