High School Students Learn about Careers and College

From June to early August, College Bound Club students from Papillion, Papillion South, and Thomas Jefferson High Schools attended up to nine summer academies offered at local college campuses. Students tried on medical scrubs, grew mold, learned about computer programming via "Alice" software, explored GPS systems, spoke with college students, interviewed with business professionals, became certified in CPR, and even bounced around at BounceU before taking the ACT test.

Staying overnight in a residence hall was a highlight of the academies. "I have some work I need to do before I get to college," concluded one student after talking with a college student over dinner. AIM's College Bound Clubs, funded by a U.S. Department of Education Upward Bound grant, are just one example of our ongoing effort to build a strong regional workforce while helping our young people maximize their potential.
