Fourth Quarter WorkForce Index Shows Improving Labor Market

The Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI), which compares labor availability to job availability in Nebraska, improved to 1.64 in the fourth quarter of 2009, a shift less substantial than the previous quarter, but still in the right direction. The change from the prior quarter indicates that, while there are still more job seekers than available jobs, the gap continues to close. Unemployment fell from 4.9% to 4.7% in the fourth quarter, and the number of job postings declined 4.4%. AIM’s job trend data indicates that the number of job postings for the fourth quarter decreased across all but two sectors. The AIM Institute and Creighton University College of Business produce the Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI) each quarter to reveal shifts in job availability versus labor availability. More

Next Technology Breakfast Set; Nearly 100 Attend Inagural Event

Nearly 100 area business leaders were served information on how to leverage social media channels to drive sales while attending AIM’s Technology Breakfast Seminar “Social Media & Business Implications” in January at the Gallup Riverfront Campus. Led by Chris Kovac, director of social influence at Nicholson Kovac, Inc., an integrated marketing communications company, attendees learned the best practices and strategies required to achieve full and effective participation in social media arenas in order to have the greatest potential impact on the bottom line.

The next Technology Breakfast, "Mobile Application Development Trends & the Business Community," is scheduled for Feb. 26. Matt Galligan, CEO and Co-Founder of SimpleGeo, will teach those in attendance how businesses can define efforts to reach the growing demographic of people using smart phones to not only communicate, but to shop, review products and more.

AIM Technology Breakfast Seminars are designed to equip participants with innovative ideas and provide examples of how to creatively apply emerging technologies across various organizations. The final seminar, scheduled for March. 26, will be “Cloud Computing & the Impact on the Future of IT.”

Slides from Kovac's presentation and additional information, including how to register, can be found here.
