Happiness Comes to AIM
Zappos is well known for its culture of intense happiness, both in its high level of customer service and the enthusiasm of the shoe retailer’s employees. When Zappo CEO Tony Hsieh decided to learn how other successful organizations engaged their employees, he took an unusual angle. He made this mission an integral part of his 20-city promotional book tour and made sure his team visited the AIM Institute. More

 
IT Leadership Academy Applications Due Sept. 10
As today's IT managers increasingly deal with the challenges of global competition and a changing workforce, effective management and leadership skills are needed more than ever. To address this growing need, the AIM Institute and its business members are pleased to offer the third annual IT Leadership Academy.

The goal of the Academy is to help IT managers develop and enhance their leadership skills to more fully leverage the talents and contributions of the local IT workforce. Selected nominees will attend a series of monthly daylong, issues-oriented seminars from November 2010 through May 2011. Applications must be received by Sept. 10. Grant Money Begins to Impact Missions
It has been three months since the AIM Institute announced the selection of 17 area nonprofit organizations to receive $300,000 in grant awards. The funding, made possible by a Strengthening Communities Fund grant managed through AIM's Compassion Institute of the Midlands, is already paying off for the sub-awardees. More

 
September Members Forum: Security and Liability with Mobile Devices
The proliferation of mobile devices and the increase in connectivity and bandwidth has allowed for unprecedented access to information. As access to information increases, organizations and their employees need to be aware of the security risks and associated legal liabilities presented by mobile devices and their uses.

James E. O'Connor, partner, Baird Holm, and Jim O'Gorman, director, Continuum Worldwide, will present "Security and Liability with Mobile Devices," from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Thompson Alumni Center at UNO. These professionals will discuss some of the best practices and tips/techniques for securing mobile devices and ways to limit the liability related to their use. HRAM/Careerlink.com Career Expo a Hit
Job seekers gave high marks to this year's HRAM/Careerlink.com Expo, held on Aug. 4 at the Scott Conference Center. This event attracted an estimated 350 highly skilled and seasoned job seekers, many of whom arrived early and stayed late to attend a variety of workshops, view 30 exhibitor booths and receive critiques of their resumes. WorkForce Index Shows Increased Opportunities for Labor
The Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI), which compares labor availability to job availability in Nebraska, fell from 1.84 to 1.69 in the second quarter of 2010, aided by an 11 percent decrease in the number of unemployed workers from first to second quarter. This change represents a slight movement toward stability and post-recession recovery. AIM's job trend data indicates that the number of job postings for the second quarter increased across all but five sectors. More
