Creighton
University and AIM have teamed up to not only take over the reigns of the Youth
Leadership Omaha program but to double its impact as well. The popular program, formerly coordinated by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, was designed to help build the interest of area high school students in becoming future leaders in the
city. In its reincarnation, Creighton students in
the College of Business Administration's leadership
program — with adult
guidance — will play a key role in fund raising and developing seminars for
the program. Thus, the program will provide learning opportunities for
both the high school participants and the college students serving as
program leaders.
Youth Leadership Omaha will restart in January 2008,
recruiting about 40 high school students and holding events during the school year. John Jeanetta, AIM's vice president of research and planning, will coordinate AIM's participation in the program.
Jeanetta tips his hat to the Chamber and the hundreds of volunteers who have
worked over the past 15 years to make Youth Leadership Omaha a valued
resource for area youth and the community. He encourages the program's long-time volunteers to continue to offer their talents to the program and hopes to attract new volunteers as well. Jeanetta also looks forward to raising the
program to the next level.
"The
AIM Institute is excited to partner with Creighton University to
continue the proud legacy," Jeanetta said. "We are especially excited
to engage the participating youth more fully in areas of leadership
that are impacted by technology, such as social networking and its
rapidly growing influence on all aspects of our life."
