Build Your Own Solar Car – Teams of students create model solar cars, culminating in a race in April. The program focuses on math, science and technology. Grand prize winners are featured in a local newspaper story and are registered for a free, one-week summer Engineering camp at the Peter Kiewit Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Web Club – Students receive training in website development and then manage the Wilson school website.

Outdoor Education Center: Where Blackboards are Brought to Life – Students meet once per week and also on two Saturdays to focus on environmental issues and how they relate to students' behaviors. Students read one book on a related topic each month and report the highlights. Students also journal. If they successfully meet benchmarks, they are eligible to attend Saturday rock climbing and ropes.

Classroom Enrichment

Weekly Incentive Program – Students earn weekly and monthly points for perfect attendance, which may be cashed in at the end of the program.

Reading Strategies – This program is a peer-to-peer instructional program designed for all Wilson teachers. The emphasis of the program is to integrate successful reading and research strategies into all academic disciplines so that reading and comprehension test scores for Wilson students increase. Training begins with Social Studies and Science teachers.

Evening Program for Students and Parents

Pizza and Pages – Parents and students attend weekly evening sessions to discuss a selected book. Dinner and baby sitting are provided. Participants keep the book at the end of the program.

Summer Program

Science Summer Camp – The focus of this camp is to improve basic science competencies and to learn about possible science careers. Professonals representing various science and technology career fields are brought in to speak about their jobs. Field trips are planned to the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Planetarium, Des Moines's Science Center and Drake University and one additional site. Students create a video storybook at the end of the week and present it at fall opening. Camp is open to all Wilson students at no cost to students.
