After-School ProgramsNational History Day Students prepare for regional and state history competitions.
Students and parents are invited to an evening event where students
present their special project.

Build Your Own Solar Car Teams of students create model
solar cars, culminating in a race in
April. The program focuses on math, science and technology. Grand prize
winners are featured in a local newspaper story and are registered for
a free, one-week summer Engineering camp at the Peter Kiewit Institute at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Web Club Students receive training in website development and then manage the Wilson school website.
Outdoor Education Center: Where Blackboards are Brought to Life Students meet once per week and also on two Saturdays to focus on
environmental issues and how they relate to students' behaviors.
Students read one book on a related topic each month and report the highlights. Students also journal. If they successfully meet
benchmarks, they are eligible to attend Saturday rock climbing and
ropes.
Classroom Enrichment
Weekly Incentive Program Students earn weekly and monthly points for perfect attendance, which may be cashed in at the end of the program.
Reading Strategies This program is a peer-to-peer
instructional program designed for all Wilson teachers. The emphasis of
the program is to integrate successful reading and research strategies
into all academic disciplines so that reading and comprehension test
scores for Wilson students increase. Training begins with Social
Studies and Science teachers.
Evening Program for Students and Parents
Pizza and Pages Parents and students attend weekly
evening sessions to discuss a selected book. Dinner and baby sitting
are provided. Participants keep the book at the end of the program.
Summer Program
Science Summer Camp The focus of this camp is to improve
basic science competencies and to learn about possible science careers.
Professonals representing various science and technology
career fields are brought in to speak about their jobs. Field trips are
planned
to the University of Nebraska at
Omaha's Planetarium, Des Moines's Science Center and Drake University
and one additional site.
Students create a video storybook at the end of the week and present it
at fall opening. Camp is open to all Wilson students at no cost to
students.
