Nebraska WorkForce Index for Second Quarter Shows
Increased Opportunities for Labor Market

OMAHA, Neb., August 6 - The Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI), which compares labor availability to job availability in Nebraska, fell from 1.84 to 1.69 in the second quarter of 2010, aided by an 11 percent decrease in the number of unemployed workers from first to second quarter.  This change indicates a slight movement toward stability and post-recession recovery. The state's unemployment rate dropped to 4.8% (from 5.4%) while the number of jobs posted also decreased slightly.

AIM's job trend data indicates that the number of job postings for the second quarter increased across all but five sectors: Health Science; Law and Public Safety; Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; Human Services; Government and Public Administration. The sectors with the largest percentage gain were Arts, A/V Technology and Communication (41%); Manufacturing (25%); Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (22%); Architecture & Construction (16%); Scientific Research/Engineering (14%).

About the Nebraska WorkForce Index
The AIM Institute and Creighton University College of Business produce the Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI) each quarter to reveal shifts in job availability versus labor availability.  The WFI combines the AIM Institute's employer data with unemployment data from the state's Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Index values greater than 1.0 indicate there are more job seekers than available jobs, while values less than 1.0 suggest a labor shortage.  For more information, visit www.aiminstitute.org/WFI or www.creighton.edu/business/news/nebraskaworkforceindex.
