Nebraska WorkForce Index for Third Quarter Shows
Continued Increased Opportunities for Labor Market
OMAHA, Neb., November 5 - The Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI), which compares labor availability to job availability in Nebraska, fell from 1.69 to 1.55 in the third quarter of 2010, aided by a 7.5% decrease in the number of unemployed workers from second to third quarter and an increase in job postings it that same time span. The closer the idex value is to 1.0, the closer Nebraska is to full employment - the continued decline indicates movement toward economic stability and post-recession recovery. The state's unemployement rate dropped to 4.3% (from 4.8%).
AIM's job trend data indicates that the number of job postings for the third quarter increased across all but four sectors: Marketing Sales and Service; Human Services; Health Science; and Arts, A/V Technology and Communication. The sectors with the largest percentage gain were Law and Public Safety (16.5%); Scientific Research and Engineering (8%); Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (7.8%), Hospitality and Tourism (6.2%), Education and Training (5.7%), and Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (5.4%).
About the Nebraska WorkForce Index
The AIM Institute and Creighton University College of Business produce the Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI) each quarter to reveal shifts in job availability versus labor availability. The WFI combines the AIM Institute's employer data with unemployment data from the state's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Index values greater than 1.0 indicate there are more job seekers than available jobs, while values less than 1.0 suggest a labor shortage.
