WFI Update:
The Nebraska WorkForce Index (WFI), which compares labor availability to job availability in Nebraska, showed positive signs in the fourth quarter, decreasing from 1.55 to 1.52. A 9.4% percent decrease in the number of unemployed workers from third to fourth quarter contributed to the improvement in the WFI. The number of jobs posted during that time fell slightly. The closer the index value is to 1.0, the closer Nebraska is to full employment. The continued decline in the WFI indicates movement toward economic stability and post-recession recovery. The state’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.1% (from 4.3%) during this same period.
Career Field Trends:
AIM’s job trend data indicates that the number of job postings for the fourth quarter decreased across all but three sectors: Human Services; Information Technology, and Scientific Research/Engineering. All three sectors increased less than 5%. Even with the decrease in postings in the fourth quarter, the total number of postings in 2010 increased by more than 5% over 2009, offering further evidence of progress toward recovery.
The following industries saw job postings increase from the third quarter of 2010:
• Scientific Research/Engineering 4.26%
• Human Services 2.55%
• Information Technology 1.90%
