2007 Technology Chief of the Year PDF Print E-mail

The Technology Celebration Award for Technology Chief of the Year recognizes senior leadership with responsibility for the implementation and delivery of an organization’s information technology.

Ken Lawonn
Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Alegent Health

Ken Lawonn, Senor Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Alegent Health was instrumental in creating the first digital hospital in our area. The new Lakeside Hospital not only provides an electronic medical record (EMR) that can be viewed by physicians anywhere, anytime, but Lakeside also provides technology for physical building operations, allowing one engineer the capability to monitor and proactively manage the heating/cooling/lighting, etc. for the entire building from a single console.

Partnering with Siemens, Lawonn and the Alegent team developed an integrated solution for the delivery of healthcare across an integrated delivery network (IDN). The architecture includes an ubiquitous access to information in a secure environment, utilizing wireless infrastructure to support portable devices in patient care areas; single sign-on to gain efficiencies; context sharing to streamline access and information across systems; and use of barcode technology to support a safe medication administration practice.

The Lakeside Hospital, part of the Alegent Health System, is one of the first successful EMR implementations in the nation. Congratulations to Ken Lawonn, the Technology Chief of the Year.
