Joseph Grenny Wows Audience at 2010 AIM Institute IT Futures Forum

Over 350 IT and business professionals joined together on November 9, 2010, to hear New York Times best-selling author Joseph Grenny address how bold, innovative strategies can help us overcome our most resistant problems at work, at home and in our communities. By simply changing our influence approach and strategies, we as leaders can ultimately change the behaviors of our employees, co-workers and colleagues.

He referenced successful New York City restauranteur Danny Meyer and his outstanding accomplishments as owner of some of the most trafficked restaurants in the Big Apple. How does he continuously do it? By influencing his staff to go above and beyond. And Mr. Grenny's example of his own son doing research on young kids will power led to audience discussion as well.

Mr. Grenny explained that while we tend to judge poor behavior as being a result of laziness or lack of motivation, in most cases it's rather a lack of ability or knowledge to change that behavior. In fact, some of the most amazing behavioral changes in the world weren't accomplished through power, politics or wealth, but through the most powerful tool of all-Influence.

Based on more than five decades of research, Mr. Grenny related his "Six Sources of Influence" to the audience, noting that as IT organizations become more complex, leaders must be able to successfully influence a large and complex human system to deliver relevant business solutions.

Joseph Grenny is an IT / leadership entrepreneur and co-author of three New York Times best-sellers:
Influencer, Crucial Conversations and Crucial Confrontations. He has spent the last 25 years teaching and advising more than 100,000 leaders on every major continent.

Also during the event, AIM awarded five $4,000 scholarships to local students as part of the
AIM Achiever Scholarship Program. This program recognizes deserving 8th grade students from Metro area middle schools who are interested in technology. They are provided with educational support services to help them excel in high school and pursue a college education. By receiving the scholarships in 8th grade, the students gain motivation for academic achievement in high school and beyond. Award recipients were:

Song Zheng - Bryan Middle School / Omaha Central High School
Susana Lopez - RM Marrs Magnet Center / Omaha South High School
Yuri Shibata - Buffett Middle School / Millard North High School
